Kennedy's Story

With so much talk about counting and recounting in the year 2000 presidential election, Harmony Kingdom decided to do a hand recount of Roly Polys inventory.
Much to their surprise they found a very rare Roly Poly hiding in a few of the "Louis" the elephant gift boxes.

No, it's not a pregnant chad or Votomatic. It's "Kennedy!"

"Kennedy" is a Hard Body donkey. Somehow this symbol of the Democratic party overturned the election of GOP elephants and infiltrated a Harmony Kingdom shipment.
Rather than interfere with the Supreme Court Justices' schedules, a lottery was held to determine which HK dealers will receive "Kennedy." Maybe we should call this group of dealers our Electoral College!

THE ODD COUPLE from Harmony Kingdom has arrived!

Last May I posted information about the creation of the new Harmony Kingdom Collectors Club that includes the benefits of receiving updated news and special offers. Of course, as a Harmony Kingdom collector and retailer, I joined. In May, club members who asked to receive information on “Exclusive Harmony Kingdom Opportunities”, received an announcement for the first exclusive opportunity to purchase “The Odd Couple” box figurine, featuring an otter and turtle in sweet embrace. Within each piece, there is a special little marbledust fish trinket. Why is it there? Know one really knows, but it certainly adds to the oddity of the carving!

This adorable box figurine, carved by Monique Baldwin, was produced in England’s Wimberley Mills with an edition of only 150. The two that I ordered arrived last Saturday and they are wonderful - the expression on the turtles face is priceless! I will be keeping one for my personal collection and I will offer the other for sale sometime in the future here on What's New at Dezign Zoo. Some of these pieces will undoubtably turn up on ebay (actually a couple already have) but if you would like to own one and aren't lucky enough to obtain one elsewhere, you might want to follow my blog for another chance.

The Harmony Ball Pot Belly collection is unique in the world of miniature figurines. These detailed characters are actually boxes with secret compartments for holding tiny treasures. The original models are carved at Martin Perry Studios in Gloucestershire, England then molded with a unique crushed marble resin developed by Martin Perry and then hand painted and tinted.

The collection includes charming animals, people, and other characters such as snowmen, ghosts, and Christmas trees. Cookie jar box figurines that were a little bigger than the rest of the collection (to make room for the cookies), were also part of the collection for a limited time.

Founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin as an environmental teach-in on April 22 1970, Earth Day marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement.    Groups that had been fighting against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, Freeway and expressway revolts, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of wildlife suddenly realized they shared common values.

   Observed in 175 countries, and coordinated by the nonprofit Earth Day Network, has helped create Earth Day organizations worldwide. The EDN believes Earth Day is now "the largest secular holiday in the world, celebrated by more than a half billion people every year." It's a new year and I have a lot of things I would like to accomplish in 2010.

But first, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of the wonderful customers, familiar and new, that did some of their holiday shopping at Dezign Zoo Animal Emporium. Their patronage is greatly appreciated and I hope they are completely satisfied with our products and service and will visit again.

3. Are easier to train
4. Normally come when called
5. Never ask to drive the car
6. Don't hang out with drug-using friends
7. Don't smoke or drink
8. Don't have to buy the latest fashions
9. Don't want to wear your clothes
10. Don't need a "gazillion" dollars for college.

11. If they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

To many, they are just animals. To me, my kitty cats are adopted daughters
who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly! =^..^=

Of course any time of the year is a good time to adopt a pet however, this month many shelters are offering "adoption specials" making it even easier to provide a loving home for a homeless or mistreated puppy or dog.

Walk your dogs - don't let them walk you!

A great device that helps control dogs that lunge and pull.

Well, it took me longer than expected to post this but here is some ideas for dealing with dogs that are hard to control when walking. While you are working to better train your dog, here is a product that really helps keep your dog from lunging and pulling when being walked.

Try a Gentle Leader! For around $15 and available at most major pet stores, this simple device really helps. I tried it on my sisters Basset and it work marvelously! She was like a different dog entirely. Of course she didn't like it at first and keep trying to scratch it off but after only a short distance, she decided it wasn't all that bad.

Not only did it keep her from going "gun-ho" out of the front door, it made it much easier to control her whenever there was an encounter with other dogs or people.

Combined with the included tips, this devise is a great training tool. I highly recommend it for dogs of any size.

Life has gone to the dogs!

Since last Thursday my life really has "gone to the dogs". Twice a day, I had to go to my Mom/sister's house to walk their Min-Pin, Basett Hound and my niece's Chihuahua. Seemed like an easy job until I discovered the hard way that walking two ankle biters and 3 foot-long freight train is not an easy task!! Especially when they are not very well trained and encounters with other dogs, critters and people is guaranteed. Quite the adventure to say the least. I will be sharing some dog waking tips in upcoming posts.

Last night, I doggy sat my favorite Springer Spaniel. He has been one of my charges many a weekend for the last 3 summers (and sometimes during Christmas) and, unlike the aforemetioned trio, he is a treat to take care of! He is always happy to see me, is well trained and is a blast to play with! Staying at "his house" is like a mini vacation however I still manage to get some work in.

Speaking of work. While dog sitting I have been gearing up for Halloween and doing some shopping. Unique and frightfully fun collectibles and decorations coming soon to all of my stores and ebay too.

One more morning of canine adventures and it's back home to my kitty cats - they miss me and don't particularly like going for walks!

As you may expect, searching for pirated software, music, and movies through Google and other search engines is risky business. The top links are often controlled by hackers who offer up computer viruses and other dangerous programs in disguise.

Excerpts from a Cat's Diary...

Day 983 of my captivity...

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet*.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am. Bastards.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return.. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now...

*I honestly thought barfing was for gastric regulation!!??

A GREAT WAY TO KEEP SQUIRRELS OUT OF YOUR BIRD FEEDERS

Perhaps like me, you love birds and you love squirrels but...
you don't appreciate how the furry-tailed critters chase away your feathered friends and pilfer their food. You also may not like the unattractive cones, wires or other unsightly contraptions that are typically used to keep the backyard acrobats at bay.

Well, I stumbled across what I think is the perfect solution. There is a product out called Cole's Hot Meats birdseed. It is made of nutritious sunflower meats treated with a Cajun-inspired coating. When a squirrels take a bite, they get a mouthful of hot pepper! It doesn't harm the squirrels, but it makes them want to stay far away from your feeder. It basically has the same effect that spritzing hot sauce on houseplants does when you want to keep your dogs and cats from chewing on them.

Birds can't taste the heat at all - they enjoy the birdseed without noticing the hot-pepper coating. However, it will only take one sample to send squirrels off looking for a better-tasting buffet!

Protect Your Pet During The Warm Weather Months!

Spring is here—and so are the bugs! Parasite prevention is important all year round for pets, and even more so when the warmer weather arrives. Now is the time for us make sure we're doing all we should to protect your pet from these 'bugs'.

FLEAS can transmit some pretty nasty diseases to your pet, such as tapeworm and cat scratch fever (Bartonellosis). For many pets, the itch is merely annoying. For others, just one bite can cause an allergic reaction and ongoing skin problems.

TICKS carry Lyme disease, as well as lesser known but serious diseases, such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichiosis, and Anaplasmosis. Many of these diseases can affect people as well as pets. That's why it's doubly important to protect your pet.

HEARTWORMS are transmitted to dogs and cats through the bite of an infected mosquito. These parasites can live in your pet's lungs, blood vessels, and heart. Heartworm infection can be fatal in both dogs and cats, and since mosquitoes can survive quite well indoors, even completely indoor pets can be at risk.

INTESTINAL PARASITES such as roundworm, hookworm, and whipworm, can infect both dogs and cats. Puppies and kittens are particularly susceptible, and some species can infect humans as well. These parasites can cause vomiting, gastric upset, and diarrhea in infected pets.

The good news is that all these internal and external parasites are easily preventable. The most effective parasite protection program is one designed around your pet's individual lifestyle and risk factors. Call your Veterinarian to schedule a consultation.
